Are we answering the questions they are asking?

Dear Friends,

I was recently reading some feedback from a few students and something caught my eye, the phase “I wish we talked more about (fill in the blank)”. It was a clue that we need to know the kind of questions people are asking. Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking we know what questions a person has, but in our fast-moving ever-changing world it is important to understand the people God connects us to and how the Gospel is good news to them.

One of the largest groups in our society is Gen Z . Author James Emery White points out a key question each generation has asked in his book, Meet Generation Z.

We all know someone in the Gen Z generation in our families, churches and neighborhoods. Reaching out to this generation is challenging. The conversations we need to have today are more complex than conversations from 10 years ago.

The Gen Z experience for family, work, and relationship is very blurry and unclear. For example, the nuclear family will make up less than 1/3 of all families by 2026. This generation has a deep need for real connection and mentoring.

As we look forward to this year in ministry, we believe God is connecting us to people from every generation. God has good news for everyone, no matter the generation or context. The Lord continues to burden our hearts to love others in His name and to point them to our Savior. Please pray for us to listen well, to understand their questions, and share the gospel in all its beauty, goodness, authenticity, and truth.

In Christ's love,
